When you interact with the Stepwise extension (e.g., starting a recording, generating steps), we may store basic configuration settings such as:

• Recording start/stop
• Workflow titles or labels (if entered by you)

1.2. Automatically Collected Information (During Recording Only)

When you choose to start a recording, Stepwise may collect:

• Click events
• Text inputs (only if you choose to include text fields)
• Page structure metadata (DOM selectors used to identify elements)
• Navigation events (URL hostname only)

→ Full URLs are never stored unless you explicitly include them in a step.

Stepwise does NOT collect:

• Your passwords
• Credit card numbers
• Sensitive personal data
• Background browsing history
• Keystrokes outside the pages you explicitly record

We only collect information necessary to accurately generate a workflow guide.

2. How We Use Your Information

We use the collected information to:

• Generate step-by-step instructions or workflow guides
• Improve the accuracy of workflow playback
• Provide optional cloud sync (if enabled)
• Improve feature quality and stability

We do not sell or share your data with advertisers or third parties for marketing.

3. Where Your Data Is Stored

Depending on your usage:

• Locally on your browser (default)
• If cloud sync or team sharing is enabled, data may be securely stored on our servers (e.g., Vercel/Postgres/Supabase)

All communication between the extension and our backend is encrypted via HTTPS.

4. Data Sharing & Third Parties

We do not sell or rent your data.

We may share data only in these limited situations:

• With trusted service providers who process data on our behalf (e.g., cloud hosting)
• To comply with legal obligations (rare)

These parties are required to maintain confidentiality and security.

You have full control over your data:

• You choose when recording starts and stops
• You can review, edit, or delete captured steps at any time
• You can clear all locally stored data from your browser
• You can request deletion of cloud-stored data by contacting us

6. Permissions Used by the Extension

The Stepwise Chrome extension may request:

• activeTab – to capture workflow steps only on the page you're interacting with
• scripting – to insert a visual guide overlay during recording or playback
• storage – to save recording settings and workflow data
• tabs – to capture tab title/hostname during a recording session

We request only the minimum permissions required for functionality.

7. Security

We implement industry-standard security measures to protect your data, including:

• HTTPS encryption
• Access controls
• Data minimization
• Regular security reviews

No method of transmission is completely secure, but we work continuously to safeguard your information.

8. Children's Privacy

Stepwise is not intended for children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children.
